Here in North Carolina, 3rd through 5th grades cover a wide range of items within each subject. Math looks at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Science focuses on Land (including rocks, minerals, soil, water, weather, and animals). There were several apps on animals and weather, but not much on the other topics. Language Arts still focuses on reading.

Let's Hear the Animals! (Animal Sounds) is an iphone application developed especially for pre-school children to see pictures of a variety of animals and to hear the sounds that they make. It is designed as a basic program for children to use easily in any location – at home or in a car, bus, train, plane or stroller. The child chooses an animal by touching a picture of the animal from a gallery view. This view shows six animals per page (see screenshot). Once your child taps on an animal's image from this main view, they will see a full screen image of that animal appear and they will hear the animal's name. To hear the sound that the animal makes simply tap the picture of the animal which will now fill the screen in a beautiful landscape view. To return to the main view and select a different animal the child can select the white home button in the center of the screen on the bottom, or he/she can choose to see the next or previous animals by clicking the white left and right arrows. So you're asking, what is BIOLOGY? Well... Here's our best definition. Biology is the study of LIFE and the changes that take place with and around all living things. And don't just think we mean Earth. The study of biology covers every planet and object in the Universe.

In the same way everything on Earth is made up of atoms, everything that is alive on Earth is made up of cells. An entire living thing can be one cell or it can be billions. Most cells on Earth have similar pieces and parts. Let's get started and look inside cell structure. Go take a look!

Best for ages 7 - 10, the Extreme Monsters crew includes:
● Val, Skateboarding Vampire. The leader of the Extreme Monsters, Val is a half vampire. He doesn't drink blood like his dad, but instead likes the strict vegetarian diet that his mother taught him. Val is a top-ranked skateboarder. He can turn to mist, has super hearing, and can fly.
● Jinx, Street Luging Witch. A young witch who is addicted to the high speed and danger of street luge, Jinx is the heart of the Extreme Monsters and is often the person to settle arguments. She loves studying and books almost as much as she does competing. Jinx can cast spells, but since she's only a student, sometimes they don't turn out exactly right.
● Wuf, In-Line Skating Werewolf. Impetuous and sometimes hot-headed, Wulf is one young werewolf who can really skate. He's an in-line skate expert specializing in verticals. He has great agility and quick reactions that allow him to pull off fantastic tricks but sometimes pushes himself a little farther than he should.
● Steiner, BMX Biking Monster. A product of Pendant Labs and designed by Doc, Steiner is the Extreme Monsters' BMX specialist. Thanks to the help of the Extreme Monsters, Steiner escaped Pendant's clutches and joined the team. He is extremely loyal and just likes everyone to be friends. Steiner has a size and strength advantage on most of his competitors.
● Mumford, Speed Climbing Mummy. Mumford is the youngest of the Extreme Monsters. An expert in speed climbing, Mumford is quiet and shy, but is always thinking. He tends to be a little accident-prone and is constantly adding to the bandages that wrap him up. Mumford is able to control his bandages, moving them like snakes with his mind.
